What vacuum is best for long hair?
A good vacuum for long hair should…
- Remove hair stuck in the carpet with ease.
- Suck hair from the bare floor without scattering them.
- And, the vacuum should not get tangled or clogged with long hair.
To avoid such pain and hassle, here are some features to look for. These features make the top-rated vacuums for long hair stand out from ordinary ones.
4 Important Features To Look For In A Good Vacuum For Long Hair
1. Suction & Airflow
Suction and Airflow are essential for the smooth operation of a vacuum.
Airflow pulls the dirt and debris through the passage/hose and then deposits them into a bag or a cup. Hence, the stronger the airflow, the stronger will be the pull.
A vacuum with good suction and airflow is more effective in pulling long hair trapped in carpet fibers.
Also, a strong suction vacuum cleaner doesn't get clogged with hair. Thus it reduces the required maintenance and efforts.
2. Brushroll
The brush roll or brush roller is another important component to look for. It produces the required agitation for loosening embedded hair, dirt, and dust in the carpet.
But the downside is, a brush roll is prone to nasty tangles with long hair or thread fibers, which can be a pain to remove.
Note: If you primarily have hard floors with few rugs, a vacuum without a roller brush is a perfect pick for you.
No one enjoys cleaning the tangles in the brush roll. Taking apart the brush roller to cut off the tangled hair is disgusting!
To avoid such pain and hassle, you can choose a vacuum with a brush roll that prevents the hair wrapping issue.
Two such popular brush roll designs vacuums are;
- Tangle Free Brushroll Vacuum
- Self Cleaning Brushroll Vacuum
Tangle Free Brush Roll Vacuum
A tangle-free brush roll design prevents long hair from wrapping around the roller. So the vacuum doesn't get tangled with hair.
Such brush roll is common in Bissell pet vacuum models.
Their roller is larger in radius than a conventional brush roll. The larger roller doesn't allow hairs to wrap around it, thus avoiding any tangle to form.
A tangle-free brush roll vacuum is very effective at picking the fur of long-haired pets – Husky, Golden Retrievers, Labs – without getting tangled.
But, they don't stand against long human hair.
Self Cleaning Brushroll Vacuum
A self-cleaning brush roll automates the manual task of cutting the hair tangles.
Sound great.. isn't it.
The popular self-cleaning brush roll design today is the "Zero-M Technology" by Shark. These vacuums have a comb that removes the hair tangles while the vacuum is operating.
Recently Shark has evolved their self-cleaning brushroll design by introducing DuoClean PowerFins roller. This design has flexible silicone fins that remove wrapped hair from the roller itself.
Another such design is the "Brushroll Clean Technology" by Electrolux. This vacuum model consists of a blade that cuts tangled hair off the roller by pressing a pedal.
The self-cleaning brush roll vacuum is very effective in picking up long human hair as well as pet hair.
3. Motorized Powerhead
A motorized powerhead is a must for removing hair from carpets. The powerhead creates the necessary agitation to loosen hair stuck in carpet fibers. The suction then pulls the debris into the vacuum.
4. Tools and Attachments
As hair spreads everywhere, having the right attachment is important to keep them at bay. The attachment also enhances the vacuum for cleaning many surfaces. It would be best to choose a vacuum that comes with the tools to suit your cleaning needs.
9 Best Vacuum Cleaners That Doesn't Get Clogged With Long Hair
Now, let us dive deeper into the top-rated vacuum to pick up long hair from carpet and floors…
1. Shark Apex Upright With Self-Cleaning Brushroll AZ1002
Best Overall
If you are looking for the best vacuum to pick up long human hair, short hair, or pet hair, the Shark Apex should be your first choice.
The Shark Apex is the most powerful vacuum with suction higher than the Dyson Ball Animal 2 and Miele C1 dynamic.
It packs a lot of Shark's innovation that makes it the best vacuum for all-around cleaning.
Pros
- Zero-M cleaner head removes long hair, short hair, and pet hair from brush roll.
- Strong suction with 3-floor settings for multi-surface cleaning.
- Powered Lift-Away mode for extended cleaning performance.
Cons
- The front soft roller is prone to hair wraps.
- Need multiple passes on thick pile carpets.
Self-Cleaning Brushroll with Anti Hair Wrap – Zero-M
The innovative "Zero-M" technology might sound like a gimmick or marketing jargon, but it works.
The Anti-hair wrap process is very effective in removing tangled hair from the brush roll.
This feature doesn't prevent hair from wrapping in the brush roll; however, it actively removes the hair wraps while the vacuum is operational.
Powerful and Variable Suction for Multi-Floor Cleaning
The Apex 1350 watts motor generates a 101″ of water lift suction, the highest in the shark lineup.
Note: The newly launched Shark Vertex has even more suction than Apex and currently has the most suction in Shark's upright lineup. Read my in-depth comparison between Shark Vertex and Apex here.
There are 3-floor settings to adjust the suction across multiple floors
- Bare floor
- low/mid pile carpet
- Thick carpet/area rugs
In each setting the suction and brush roll spinning speed changes to achieve the greatest performance.
For example, on the carpet, the suction reduces and the brush roll spins faster for a deep-cleaning performance.
However, the suction cannot be reduced enough to clean throw rugs, drapes, curtains, and other delicate fabrics. Many customers complain of the lack of a variable suction slider.
Dual Brush for Exceptional Cleaning Performance – DuoClean
Another of the Shark great inventions, the DuoClean is a combination of two brush rolls in the same cleaner head.
Each roller serves a different purpose. The front soft roller makes direct contact with the hard floors thanks to its design.
The soft roller is excellent at picking up anything from the finest dust like flour up to the largest debris like cheerios on hard floors and carpet.
It also buffs the hard floors giving a polishing touch, so you no longer have to go through mopping them.
The back brush roller with stiff nylon bristles and rubber straps agitates carpet fiber to loosen embedded debris and hairs.
Unfortunately, the stiff brush roll doesn't turn off in the bare floor mode, but it rotates at a slower speed.
Not Just for Cleaning Floors
The Powered lift-away mode extends the cleaning performance of Apex beyond the floors.
In the lift away mode you can reach underneath the bed, sofas, and kitchen cabinets.
With this feature, you can use the Apex as a powerful handheld vacuum to clean stairs, table tops, window sills, etc.
Customers highly praise this feature due to its versatility and mobility.
What all things to look for
Though the Shark Apex has many innovative features, it's not the perfect vacuum out there in the market. It has some limitations that cannot be neglected.
1. The Zero-M is very effective, but not perfect
The Anti-hair wrap function works only in unwrapping hair tangles around the bristle brush, not on the soft roller.
So, the front soft roller is still prone to hair wraps, which many customers have complained about.
However, the soft roller can be removed with ease for cleaning and maintenance. No tedious task of cutting the tangles with scissors.
2. Need many passes on a thick pile or plush carpet
Though the Apex performs exceptionally well on low and mid pile carpet with two passes, this is not the case on the fluffier or plush carpet. It requires three or more passes to loosen hair, dirt, and debris and suck them from the thick pile carpets.
Conclusion
The Shark Apex with Zero-M is a great fit for a house with long hair women or fur babies, or both. If you want the best vacuum for all-around performance and ready to spend a couple of hundred dollars, the Shark Apex should be one period.
Great Value For The Money
The Shark Navigator Speed is a reliable vacuum for those looking for a good vacuum for long hair at a reasonable price.
Its Zero-M or anti-hair wrap cleaner head actively removes hair tangles while the vacuum is running, so you don't have to pull them off the brushroll after each cleaning session. With its self-cleaning brushroll, vacuuming hairs off carpets won't be a chore anymore.
Moreover, it converts into a portable vacuum in the Lift-Away mode, making the above surface cleaning a breeze.
The Navigator costs less than the premium Shark Apex and Shark Vertex but has the same deep-cleaning performance on carpets. At an affordable price, the Navigator offers great value for the money. A versatile upright vacuum to fulfill the cleaning needs of most homes.
Pros
- No hair wrap in the brush roller.
- The rubber strip at the back creates a suction seal and increases airflow.
Cons
- No powered lift-away mode.
- Not self-propelled requires more effort to move on carpets.
Zero-M Works Better in the Navigator
Though the Navigator is not the most powerful vacuum, it has the same Zero-M feature as the Shark Apex that works way better in removing hair wraps.
This is due to the lack of a DuoClean floor nozzle.
The anti-hair wrap mechanism in Navigator works in the same way as the Apex, but the Navigator has only the stiff bristle brush roll in the floor nozzle.
So, the hair wrapping issue with the front roller is not the case with Navigator.
Check out the comparison between the latest Shark Vertex AZ2002 and Shark Navigator ZU561.
Good Cleaning Ability on Low to Mid Pile Carpets and Bare floors
Unlike the Apex, the Navigator offers only two-floor settings – bare floor and carpet.
On low to mid pile carpet, it has a good agitation and shows a deep cleaning ability.
On a bare floor setting, the brush roller spins at a slower speed like the Apex, and suction increases.
A lining of rubber strip on the back of the floor nozzle produces a seal on the hard floor, which enhances the airflow to suck more stuff.
Due to this seal, the navigator is effective in picking up finer debris like sand on the floor.
However, its suction is not as strong as the Apex which is noticeable when picking very large particles like cheerios and fruit loops.
Versatile to some extent
The Navigator has a "lift away" mode but not the "powered lift away" as the Apex does.
The major difference being the lack of power to run motorized tools in lift-away mode.
You can use the suction only accessories for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and other above floors surfaces.
Another great feature is the completely sealed HEPA filtration which is matchless with any other vacuum at a similar price range.
The Negatives
The Navigator is not self-propelled, so you have to put effort to move it on carpets.
Few owners have complained that it is very difficult to push on plush carpets.
Conclusion
The Shark Navigator is a great vacuum to cut down on the hassle of maintaining tangled hair around the brush roll. This is an ideal fit if you don't have the budget or don't want to splurge on a Shark Apex or Vertex.
DuoClean PowerFins – More Effective At Removing Long Hair Wraps Than Zero-M
The DuoClean PowerFins is an upgrade to their classic DuoClean roller. This new design has flexible silicone fins along with short bristles in the back roller.
Unlike the Zero-M floor head in Apex, the Vertex does not have a comb at the back of the roller. The PowerFins does the job of preventing and removing hair wraps for a tangle-free cleaning experience.
Also, this design can handle even longer and more human hair than the Apex.
Unbeatable Suction & Airflow
The Vertex has the highest suction and airflow in the Shark Upright lineup. It even beats the Apex in raw cleaning power.
This power shows up in crevices, hard floors, baseboard edges, and carpets. On crevices, it can pick up debris in a single pass, which is rare for other vacuums in this list.
More Efficient At Bare Floor Cleaning
The PowerFins also increases the efficiency of cleaning hard floors.
Wondering how?
The flexible fins make non-stop contact with the surface to pick fine dust, large crumbs, and other debris off the floor. Also, they cover more surface area in each pass. So, you don't have to go over the same spot multiple times, which saves time and effort.
Moreover, the soft front roller is a must for hard floors. It pulls large particles or piles of debris inside the nozzle instead of scattering them or pushing them away. At the same time, it even polishes the floor for a shinier look.
Very Good At Deep Cleaning Carpets, But Not Perfect
The Vertex is good at removing nasty stuff stuck in the carpet fibers thanks to its powerful suction and airflow.
However, the silicone fins don't create the same level of agitation as conventional bristle rollers. So, don't expect a 100% deep cleaned carpet at the first usage.
Also, the openings between the two rollers cause suction leakage, which decreases the airflow at the bottom of the roller.
That said, it is still great at deep cleaning carpets scoring very close to 100%.
Built For Whole House Cleaning
Like the Apex, the Vertex also has Powered Lift-Away, which provides 3-in-1 versatility. With this, you can tackle not only floors or carpets but the whole house in one go.
You can use the powered lift-away mode to get under furniture and appliances with ease. Also, you can lift the pod to reach high surfaces like walls, shelves, and ceiling fans.
Besides, the placement of suction controls on the handle makes moving from carpets to floors a breeze.
Few Caveats – Not A Deal Breaker
Short and Stiff Hose
The Short hose and lack of flexibility cause the vacuum to tip over while using in upright mode. In a lift-away setting, the tension on the hose can be tiring on the hands while cleaning high up surfaces. In short, the hose can be annoying to use if you are used to longer hoses as in Dyson uprights. But, for previous Shark owners, this won't bother much.
Transparent Dust Cup
The big clear dust canister looks elegant when brand new, however with usage, dust particles stuck on the inner wall are visible from the outside, which makes the vacuum look ugly.
Conclusion
The Vertex is a perfect fit for a house with human shedders and lots of carpets.
Speaking of cleaning ability and performance…
The Navigator pet pro is very effective at picking up small to large size debris without kickback.
In fact, the cleaning performance on hard floors is comparable with Apex even though it does not have a DuoClean head.
On low pile carpet, the pickup is very good but is not efficient for thick pile carpets. You'll have to go through multiple passes to pick large debris.
Large Dust Canister
The pet pro has a dust capacity of 2.8 quarts which is larger than the Navigator and the Apex.
Owners are happy that the extra-large dust cup saves their wasted time spent in emptying the dust canister frequently.
Not as versatile as the Apex and Navigator
The Navigator pet pro doesn't have a lift-away mode, however, it has a 12ft hose for above floors cleaning.
Conclusion
The Navigator pet pro is a good vacuum to keep long human and pet hairs off the floors and carpets.
5. Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus 24613
Best Tangle-Free Brush Roll Vacuum
The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is a perfect vacuum for long-haired pet owners. It is ideal for picking up hairs for Huskies, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, etc.
Pros
- Tangle-free brush roll prevents hair wraps.
- Variable suction for low carpet and plush carpet
- Brush roll turns off on hard floors.
Cons
- Poor pickup ability on crevice
- Snowplows cheerios size debris
- No height adjustment
Let's talk about the unique features that make it a good vacuum for pet hair, especially long pet hair.
Impressive Tangle-Free Brushroll
This vacuum has an impressive tangle-free brush roll that prevents – unlike the Zero-M – hair wrap. It's because the roller is larger in radius than a regular brush roll.
A fantastic feature that you'll LOVE if you have fur babies with long hair.
With the tangle-free brush roll, you no longer have to untangle the hair wraps anymore.
But, the tangle-free design is only effective for hair length of less than 10".
Long human hairs still get wrapped in this brush roller. So, if you have women with long hair that shed, check out the Shark models with Zero-M.
Excellent at Deep Cleaning Carpets
The suction is effective at picking up the different sizes of dirt from carpets. This includes embedded dog hairs, fine dust, and large debris.
On carpet deep cleaning test it scores 98%, very close to that of high priced commercial vacuum cleaners.
However, due to lack of height adjustment and lower front gates, it snowplows bigger size debris on the carpet and hard floors.
The brush roll has an edge-to-edge suction which is another great feature for cleaning carpets. Both sides of the roller clean equally well.
But, the position of the roller belt leaves a blind spot at the center of the cleaning path, which needs extra passes to clean the left-out debris.
Not Very Efficient on Hard Floors
The pickup is not good on hard floors due to a lack of airflow and suction seal with the surface.
It doesn't scatter or throw dirt, but you may have to go through two or more passes on hardwood and tile floors.
Also, you can disengage the brush roll while cleaning hard floors.
Cyclonic Spooling system for a hands-free dumping experience
The cyclonic spooling system separates pet hair from fine dust and spools it. You have to press the button to trash the debris, no more pulling the debris with your hands, yuck!
The filters don't accumulate dirt and get clogged up often.
Due to the cyclonic spooling and clog-free filter, it requires fewer maintenance efforts.
An assortment of Versatile tools for a complete home cleaning
The Bissell pet hair eraser comes with versatile tools for an all-round cleaning.
It has a crevice tool, 2 in 1 dusting tool with regular and rubber brush, and a turbo-powered handheld pet tool.
The handheld pet tool also has a tangle-free brush roll. A handy tool for removing pet hair from sofa, upholstery, furniture, carpeted stairs, couch, and pillows. It's very easy to use and doesn't get hair tangled.
With a 7ft long hose, vacuuming the stairs is quite easy. Moreover, the vacuum doesn't tip over even when the hose is fully extended.
The easy-to-release wand also adds to convenience while cleaning baseboards, nooks, and crannies.
Weighing at 14 lbs, this is the lightest upright in the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser series. It's easy to maneuver, thanks to the swivel head design. And, with the low profile floor head, it comfortably gets under beds, furniture, and cabinets.
The power cord is 30 ft, pretty long enough to vacuum larger areas without changing outlets too often.
Conclusion
If you own a long-haired pet and find yourself untangling the brush roll often. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser with Tangle Free Brushroll is worth paying for.
The Apex Uplight resembles a Shark Rocket stick vacuum, yet, it is more powerful thanks to the Hypervelocity suction.
For the Hypervelocity suction, the Shark engineers have to redesign the whole vacuum to minimize resistance to airflow, which reduces the suction.
This results in a more streamlined airflow and a lot more suction power for a vacuum of this size.
In fact, the Shark Apex Uplight is 30% more powerful than the Shark Rocket with Zero-M. Also, more powerful than any cordless stick vacuum in the market.
This incredible power is justified by owners who say they are fascinated to see the dust cup full of fine dust and large stuff it picks up from the carpet and bare floors with one or two passes.
Another owner is glad to see that the Uplight has restored the luster of their dated carpets.
Versatility built for whole-house cleaning
The uplight features the Lift-away mode with a built-in extendable hose which is very uncommon among stick vacuums.
The extendable hose makes the Apex uplight more useful than the traditional stick or cordless vacuums.
The traditional models morph into a handheld unit with an attachment that connects to the unit. This setup can be difficult for cleaning in tight space and heavy on the forearm.
Now, with the built-in hose, you can hold the lightweight(5.7 lbs) pod in one hand and do the cleaning with the other hand.
This makes the above floor cleaning more convenient and easier to do.
Moreover, this unit is very versatile and offers many options for your cleaning needs.
- You can use it as a handheld vacuum for cleaning upholstery and couch.
- Can connect the wand to the hose for baseboard and edge cleaning.
- Lift away pod with the wand for ceiling and vents.
- Can directly attach the floor nozzle to pod for cleaning stairs.
Also, it is low profile, you can lay it flat to reach underneath beds, sofas that a full-size vacuum cannot.
This stick vacuum has the Zero-M self-cleaning brush roll and the DuoClean floor head like its full-size counterpart.
The Zero-M anti-hair wrap brush roll actively removes hair tangle from the bristle brush roller.
Though the soft roller gets hair wrap, Shark has made it easy to pull the front roller for removing the hair wraps without cutting.
This is also a completely sealed system with HEPA filtration, making it one of the cheapest stick models with this feature.
Things we don't like.
The Apex Uplight runs at one power setting. There's no variable suction control for bare floors and carpets as in the Shark Rocket stick series.
It lacks a variable suction slider to lower the suction for cleaning delicate surfaces.
Moreover, the height cannot be adjusted on carpets/floors and the brush roll always remains on, spinning at full speed.
There is only one handle at top of the vacuum which makes it inconvenient to hold it for vertical surface cleaning.
Conclusion
The Shark Apex Uplight provides the deep cleaning performance of an upright in a compact, lightweight, and versatile design. A perfect partner for whole-house cleaning without the dread of dragging a giant vacuum cleaner.
Let's dig deep into each of the features it offers and their benefits to you.
DuoClean PowerFins Brushroll – Say Bye-Bye to Hair Wraps
This new Shark cordless is the first to have both the DuoClean rollers and anti-hair wrap brush roll. Earlier Shark cordless either has the DuoClean or the self-cleaning brush, not both.
This is good news for people who love both features' but have to compromise one for the other. Now, you can have the benefits of both worlds from a single cordless unit.
The DuoClean creates an exceptional seal on hard floors to pick up piles of debris without any mess up. The front roller buffs hardwood and laminate floors, giving them a polishing touch. The DuoClean brush roll is a must-have for households with hard floors.
The PowerFins roller on the back is great on the carpet. Along with nylon bristles, the fins agitate embedded dirt and hair from carpet naps. At the same time, the rubber fins also keep the roller free from hair wraps.
Owners rave about it as the best cordless vacuum to have for a household with long-haired women and pets.
The PowerFins roller is more effective at resisting hair tangles than the Zero-M.
As a result, the Vertex cordless picks even more long hair than the previous models.
However, there are a few downsides to this design.
The floor nozzle is narrow, which requires more passes for cleaning large surfaces. Yet, a narrow head means more concentrated suction and airflow.
The silicone fins make a high pitched noise that's unpleasant.
Some owners have experienced static shocks while using the vacuum in dry conditions.
Suction & Cleaning Performance
The Shark Vertex IZ462H is more potent than the Rocket Pet Plus.
Like Pet Plus, the Vertex also has two cleaning modes and a boost mode for MAX power.
There doesn't seem to be a significant difference between max and low power. The suction power on Low seems equal to that on Boost mode, thus giving more battery juice to cover more areas.
Its pickup ability on bare floors is exceptional, thanks to a better seal. The dual rollers can suck fine dust to large piles of debris without pushing them forward. It is flawless at picking dust, sand, cheerios, kitty litter, pet food, and hairs.
It does an excellent job of removing human and pet hair strands without any clogs or wraps on carpets. It is also good at cleaning surface dirt from the carpet and area rugs.
It's ideal for spot cleaning or day-to-day upkeep of carpets but not optimal for deep cleaning.
Its excellent edge suction makes vacuuming hidden mess under kitchen cabinets a breeze. You don't have to swap between the floor head and attachments.
Multi-Flex Wand
This is another excellent feature that you'll praise if you have lots of furniture to clean under.
With the Multi-Flex wand, you don't have to bend over or move your furniture while vacuuming. With the click of a button, the rod breaks into half to reach under the couch, bed, dining table, etc.
It makes cleaning under these hard to reach surfaces easy.
The folding design takes less storage space than a conventional stick vacuum. It doesn't need a wall mount to store it.
You don't even need to lean it against a wall during short breaks and worry about the vacuum falling over.
Versatility
The Shark Vertex offers 2-in-1 versatility. It converts into a handheld vacuum cleaner for quick cleaning above-floor areas. Also, you can use the motorized powerhead in handheld mode. This comes in handy while cleaning carpeted stairs that need agitation of a power nozzle.
With the extension wand and tools cleaning cobwebs, ceiling fans, and walls is no more a chore.
Ease of Use
The Vertex cordless stick is also pretty easy to use for everyday cleaning.
There are two different settings to choose between carpet and hard floors. Moving from carpet to hard floors requires sliding a switch on the handle. No more switching the floor head like the Dyson V11.
No trigger to hold on to keep the vacuum running, causing strain on your palm. The Shark does have a trigger-activated MAX mode, but it's only needed if you want a boost.
Due to strong suction, the Vertex is hard to operate on the carpet. It feels like a self-propelling vacuum on carpets.
Another negative is its top-heavy design. The weight of the motor suspends in hand, causing some strain to the wrist and arms. This can be a severe concern for some people.
Battery Life
The Shark Vertex also has an improved runtime over the Rocket Pet Plus. On a full charge, it delivers 60 mins of runtime using suction only tools. While with the powerhead gives 35 mins approximately.
However, it has a removable battery that you can replace with a charged one to extend the runtime. This is not the case with similar priced or premium range Dyson cordless.
Conclusion
The Shark Vertex IZ462H is a no brainer for a house with long-haired humans or pet who sheds. It is a super convenient cordless vacuum for daily usage and comes at half the cost of its premium competitor!
8. Bissell ICONpet
Best Tangle-Free Cordless Vacuum
The Bissell ICONPet is a cordless stick vacuum with a tangle-free brush roll. Like the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, the larger roller is very effective in preventing pet hair tangles around the brush. However, extra-long human hairs still get wrapped in the brush roller.
So, this is a great pick if you have long-haired pets. But for long human hair, I will recommend the Shark corded or cordless stick vacuum.
With that said, let's look at the pros and cons.
Pros
- Has an On/Off power button. No longer have to hold the trigger while vacuuming.
- Wall mount and charging station for hassle-free storage.
Cons
- The battery is non-removable and non-replaceable.
The ICONPet comes in two variants ICONPet and ICONPet Pro.
Major differences being the battery voltage and included attachments.
Cleaning Performance
This cordless stick vacuum has 3 power modes – Low, Medium, and High. This helps in efficiently cleaning different floors with optimal power consumption.
The lowest setting is ideal for hardwood or bare floors, but the suction is too low. It requires two passes to pick up heavy debris.
So, the medium setting is perfect for a house with the majority of hard floors. This reduces cleaning time and effort.
It does a good job of picking up pet hair, fine dust, and large debris from carpets as well.
However, some owners have found it difficult to vacuum high pile thick carpet in high power settings.
Speaking of the suction, the Bissell ICONPet is on the lower end than most of the cordless vacuum in the market. Like the Shark Rocket Pet Pro, Dyson V11, etc.
But, it is well designed to provide excellent performance even with lower suction.
This includes a minimal front gate and suction seal on the back of the floorhead. Both of these help to keep the airflow for optimal suction.
These key changes and a lower airflow increases the run time without impacting the performance.
Easy to Clean & Maintain Tangle-Free Brush Roll
The tangle-free roller is very good at removing pet hair wraps itself, so it needs no maintenance. However, extra long human hair and threads do get wrapped in the brush roll which needs cleaning.
Don't worry, Bissell has made it very easy to access the roller brush for a quick clean up. You need to twist a screw and pop out the roller.
Versatile for All Surface Cleaning
The low profile floor nozzle, versatile design, and attachments make it perfect for every cleaning task.
It converts to a handheld vacuum for cleaning pets' beds, upholstery, furniture, and stairs. You get a motorized turbo brush for dealing with pet hairs on these surfaces.
Also, like the Shark Uplight, the floor nozzle can be directly connected to the hand unit. This would be more convenient for cleaning stairs than the small turbo brush.
The whole unit is light enough to clean the overhead ceiling and vents with a single hand.
Unlike the Dyson stick models, the ICONPet has an on/off power switch so you don't have to hold on the trigger to keep it running.
This one comes with a wall-mount and charging station which is missing and a major con in Shark Rocket Pet Pro.
Speaking of the dislikes, the important one is the lack of a removable battery. It has a built-in battery and spare ones are not sold. This is a huge turnoff.
Like other stick vacuums, it cannot stand on its own and need to lean against a wall or some support. However, the top-heavy design makes it difficult to rest it in a stable position making it more prone to falling.
Though the whole vacuum is well built and sturdy, the canister is plastic and susceptible to break due to repeated falls.
The canister is smaller and some find it difficult to open and empty the dust bin.
Conclusion
Overall, the ICONPet is a good cordless tangle-free vacuum to pick up long pet hairs. Though it doesn't have fancy features as the Dyson cordless stick vacs, it does a pretty good job of cleaning up messes and provides a decent battery life.
Detachable Mini Motorized Self-Cleaning Brushroll
The motorized brush picks stubborn hairs from carpeted stairs and upholstery with ease. It requires much less effort than the air-driven turbo brushes that need more muscle to get the job done.
Moreover, the anti-hair wrap feature keeps the brush roller tangle and clog-free.
And, its small size makes it convenient for usage in smaller or tight spaces.
Better Air Intake for Clog-Free Pickup
This handheld has a new air intake design. Its two cyclones are more efficient at separating larger debris from smaller particles. The air intake path is simple and doesn't offer any resistance to the airflow, which means it is less prone to clog.
Due to this, the Shark CH951 can pick up extra-large debris without getting clogged. This is not the case in older Shark and other handheld models that clog with large debris.
Cleaning Performance
It is flawless at sucking stuck hairs from places a full-sized vacuum can't reach.
Besides, it's also good at picking up kitty litter, food crumbs, cheerios, coffee grinds, etc.
It's great for tackling those accidents in the kitchen or small daily chores around the house.
With the mini motorized brush, you can even spot clean carpets.
The Negatives
